Phases of Amy and Owen’s Portrait

After making a composite of a few adorable photographs, and after a few practice pencil sketches, I create the initial drawing with watercolor pencil on a block of Aches Hot Press French watercolor paper.

Next, I use a wet brush and some additional watercolor paint as I begin to wash over Amy’s features.

Then I focus on Owen.

And finally I go back with a darker wash to intensify certain areas, like their beautiful eyes, trying not to overwork the expressive strokes I created initially.

Chewed-Eddie

Little Eddie nibbled on his portrait

Eddie, my Australian Shepherd puppy, has fine taste and only nibbles on my most expensive blocks of French watercolor paper. Ugh.
